THE TEMPLE ISRAEL ADULT CHOIR – WHEN WE SING WE PRAY TWICE
Music has always been an integral part of our liturgy. There were congregant choirs and then for many years a hired choir worked with Jan Meyel. When Cantor Suzanne Bernstein came to Temple Israel, she set about building up both adult and children’s choirs. Over one hundred fifty adults and children have filled our santuary with music over the last quarter century. Throughout the year the choir sings at some Shabbat services, at festival services, at Bat/Bar Mitzvah services, and during the High Holy Days. Each year Rabbi Howald works with the choir to adapt the musical liturgy to enhance the prayerbook that is being used. Congregational favorites are retained year after year. The choir is ALWAYS looking for new members. A perfect voice is not a requirement. A love of music and a desire to “raise your voice in song” is all that is needed. OUR JUNIOR CHOIR
Our Junior Choir is comprised of students from our Religious and Hebrew School. Singing at the Shabbat Family Services the first Friday of the month.is what they do best. They also give us the gift of song at the Yom Kippur Children’s Service.
