Rabbi Michael D. Howald Committee for Social Action and Tikkun Olam
Social Action - Tikkun Olam

At Temple Israel, social action is an expression of our Jewish values. Through hands-on projects, community partnerships, and heartfelt giving, we support those in need—locally, nationally, and in Israel. Together, we practice Tikkun Olam—repairing the world for a better tomorrow.
Our Mission
To promote Tikkun Olam through the application of Reform Jewish values and to uplift
underprivileged and vulnerable children and families across Staten Island.
How You Can Help
Whether you give time, goods, or donations—you make a difference.

Diaper Drive
Did you know that food stamps don’t cover diapers? We collect diapers and donations for Project Hospitality, supporting struggling families with infants. Drop off diapers in the lobby on Friday evenings or Sunday mornings Or donate to Social Action and note “Diapers”.
Food Drive
Help stock local food pantries with kosher and non-perishable items.
Drop items (no glass) in the collection bins for COJO Kosher Food Drive and Project Hospitality Food Drive.
Other Drives
- Feminine Hygiene products are high in demand.
- Blood Drives – Help save lives in our community.
- Breast Cancer Walks – Support CSI Breast Cancer Research and ACS.

Celebrating Our Impact
Christmas day 2024 our temple members along with children of all ages helped to prepare food for the needy and had the privilege to deliver it directly to those in need.
We have been honored at the Silver Lake Head Start Graduations for our support and received a
Community Service Award. Preschoolers received fully stocked backpacks, thanks to generous
donations and the hard work of volunteers.
Thank You!
We couldn’t do this without you. Every dollar, every diaper, every moment of your time helps us bring
compassion and dignity to others.
Join us in doing good. Show up, give what you can, and help us repair the world—together.
